Cut a few minutes off your shower and save 10 gallons of water for every two minutes you cut. If everyone in the U.S. cut their shower by two minutes for an entire year, it would replenish the amount of water lost each day out of the world's largest source of freshwater--the Great Lakes.
If you have to turn on the water for a few minutes to heat it up before taking a shower, consider putting a bucket in the tub or shower to capture the water that would normally be lost. You can use this water to water your plants or wash your floor. Instead of wasting water, repurpose it.
